Human Rights

Jean has consistently supported human rights for all.

  • Jean supported the Human Rights Act of 1994, which prohibited discrimination by sexual orientation in housing, employment, and other areas.
  • House Republicans worked to stop the state employees contracts that include domestic partner benefits. As a member of the Employee Relations Subcommittee, Jean argued for fairness and voted to uphold the contracts.
  • She was the only member of the House to speak on the floor in support of Representative Karen Clark and Representative Scott Dibble when they protested the Republican House decision to refuse to grant partner benefits to House employees.
  • Jean has consistently spoken against and voted against amending the constitution to limit marriage to one man and one woman.
