Back to School
In 1979 Jean began attending William Mitchell at night and got her law degree in 1983. She was one of the first eight law clerks at the then brand new Court of Appeals. When her clerkship was over, she was hired as a staff attorney for the court.
In 1985, a group of neighbors in south Minneapolis asked her to run for an open seat in the Minnesota House. You can read about her record as a legislator in "The issues".
Jean's husband, Dwight, recently left his long time position on the Attorney General's staff to attend seminary full time. Peter is on Mayor Rybak's staff as a senior policy aide. Stuart, his wife Gretel, and their children, Per and Hattie, live in Highland Park, Illinois, where Stuart is a conservation ecologist at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Gretel continues her work with the Botanic Garden and The Nature Conservancy.
Jean and Dwight still spend some of their free time at their farm but now Stuart and Gretel use the fields for experimental plots for their studies of native prairie plants, a prairie restoration project, and to grow native prairie seeds. Check out echinacea.umn.edu. Jean and Dwight have happily become laborers in this endeavor.
